London Y/End #5 Failure To Alert #1 Not alertedIt transpired that the double asked for a diamond lead - dummy's first bid suit. N/S claimed that this required an alert, and that they would not have stayed in 3NT if it had been.... |

A Opening Lead OOT ? My 1st posting so please encourage me to use this forum again The contract is 4S by S. East holds a card so that S can see it. It is not face down on the table but held 'edge on' the table with the face towards SE so both S and E can see it. Neither W nor N can see it (I believe them). No questions are asked or requested by either defender. Is it a lead out of turn ?Considerations:22A th... |

London Y/End #4 MI #1 Hackett - 12-15 take-out - but not alertedWest claimed that he wouldn't have doubled if he'd known that the heart cards were likely to be over him (in a take-out bid) rather than under him (in a club raise). What do you think?... |

London Y/End #3 UI #1 Agreed hesitation. There is really not much to say about this. 2 and 3 were weak and non-constructive, the BIT was agreed. 4 made exactly. How do you rule?... |
|
London Y/End #2 UI #1 After considerable thought [agreed]The TD was called because N/S were unhappy about the 4 bid.The TDs thought this probably the easiest of the rulings at this event: do you?... |

London Y/End #1 UI #1 Pre-empt in a minor#2 Pass or correct# 3 TD first called before passThere was a slight language difficulty. East asked the meaning of 3NT but could not understand the answer and did not find it on the CC.Before passing, West asked again, and called the TD for help. North spoke better English than South [they were a married French couple] so the TD sent South away from the table and North expl... |

Nearly A Ruling! This was going to be a ruling, but something happened, which is why this appears in this forum!E/W had a sequence which ended with Blackwood, a response, and a slow signoff in 6NT, raised to 7NT. The TD was called, rights were reserved, and the TD went away and waited for a recall.Since the TD was never recalled, we presume declarer went off in 7NT. Now, I know how to make the hand, because ... |

Score Sheet Lost Hi , What happens when a score sheet is unfound at the end of a Mitchell ? Does the Director gives " board unplayed " to the pairs who have played that board, or calculate the results without that board ? Where can we find instructions for that case ? Many thanks in advance Best wishes to you all for the New Year ! Al. Ohana... |

Ask About The Auction Greetings! This hand was subject to a committee ruling this summer in Sweden.AKQxxJTxxxAxxRHO opened 1NT (14-16)This hand doubled.Next said pass and partner removed to 2D.Opener passed and this hand passed too.LHO doubled and two passes followed. After a while the player with theese cards passed.2D went 2 down doubled and 2Sp was a make or one down depending on the play. The problem was that the ... |

I'll Give You A Club ... This seemingly routine claim was related to me here in Atlanta, Georgia, visiting the local club. On the eight of hearts lead, South claimed, stating "I give you a club". It was pointed out to him that his jack of clubs was in fact the jack of spades. The director could think of no rational way the declarer could go down. He is not allowed to take the percentage line in clubs (Law 70E1),... |

Jump Bid Dealer S; S=Pass, W=1c, N=2s.How should the 2s bid be interepreted?... |

Logical Alternative Or Not * Multi - Weak 2 for a Major or 17+ 4441 shape any singleton** Pass or Correct# Inquired about 3S and then PassAfter the hand I summoned the director expressing my reservation about West's double. In my opinion West was in possession of UI and double of 4H is not a clear cut action. The Director went back to her table and discussed it with her partner and eventually ruled that pass was not a... |

Xmas Party Movement I received the following email:QUOTE I am running our Christmas bridge dinner party. I expect some 10 or 11 tables with maybe a half table. Could you suggest a simple movement such that Norths are stationary and all others move to play with each other (like an individual). Expect to play some 20 -22 boards.I have given my correspondent a solution, but this is not my main area of expertise, and I a... |

Natural Michaels (EBU) This came up in a teams of 4 knockout match last night. It wouldn't have affected the result so I didn't seek a ruling at the time, but would be interested in comments.1C shows a weak no trump or 10-15 balanced with no 5 card major and at most one 4 card major. 2C was alerted and described as michaels. The double was alerted and described as just showing values. It's worth saying that ... |

Mistaken Explanation 1C----------2D*------Dble**----3DDble***---4D---------Dble--------All pass* Described as weak after question** Take-out*** Take-outBefore the lead the bid of 2D was correctly explained as showing 16-18. Poor defence allowed the contract to make, which should have been defeated by one. Opps now claimed they had been damaged by misexplanation of 2D.Local TD removed final double and scored 1... |
